WICKERИ: THE LONG WATCH SAGA
by J.P. Hathorne
THE FOUNDATION IS ROTTING FROM THE BOTTOM UP.
Salem, Massachusetts. The summer of 1976. Three twelve-year-old boys ride their bicycles into a flooded smuggling tunnel beneath the historic Derby Wharf on a dare, looking for rumored privateer treasure. They find something else entirely. Something that has been sealed in the salt for three hundred years and is very, very hungry.
WICKEЯИ: Elara: The Summer of '76 is the first book in the Long Watch saga, a six-part supernatural horror series set against the real history and geography of the New England coastline. The story follows Sam, Pete, and Arnie — the self-proclaimed Kings of the Cul-de-Sac — as they are pulled into a secret war against Silas Wickern, an ancient executioner erased from the colonial records of 1692 who has spent three centuries building a predatory network beneath the streets of their hometown. Armed with maritime cold iron and tuned rock salt, guided by a desperate witch named Elara Vance, and joined by a quiet classmate who can hear the corruption humming through the pipes, the newly formed quartet must hold the line while the adults of Salem sleep behind a veil that will not let them see the truth.
The novel is told through the voice of Sam in 2026, fifty years after the events, as he finally commits the real history of that summer to the page. The result is a story that moves between the desperate, white-knuckle battles of childhood and the haunted reflections of a man who has spent his entire adult life watching the dark and waiting for it to come back.
The Long Watch saga draws from the real locations of Salem's 1692 witch trials, the colonial architecture of the historic district, and the working-class seaport culture of the 1970s to build a fully original mythology rooted in actual American history. The series expands with each installment, following the quartet from the streets of Salem north along the New England coast as the corruption spreads and a new generation begins to hear the frequency.
